Early Learning : Colors and Shapes
We are heading back to school in a few weeks and this year will look a lot different than in the past. As I enter my 20th year of teaching (WOW!), I have been putting a lot of thought into how I can best meet the needs of the children in my class with regard to their social and emotional needs, safety and social distancing by encouraging individual activities and parallel play as much as possible… activities that will engage and entertain the children and get them excited about learning. In this video, I share several ideas for learning colors and shapes, and we do a little math, too! These activities develop critical thinking and number sense, and also work to strengthen fine motor skills, which children need to eventually develop pre-writing skills. You can DIY all of this yourself just like I did; but if you prefer something that is ready-made, I created a 20-page printable with all of these pages which is available for download in my shop.
FUN FACT: there’s a coupon code at the end of this video for 50% off the PDF, if you are interested!
I am already planning more videos like this one to demonstrate activities using these sheets to introduce and progress through learning colors, shapes, patterning, math activities and more. I hope videos like this will become a valuable resource for families and teachers alike.
Teachers, make a classroom set as personal manipulatives for each of your students:
Create cards by printing on white cardstock then cutting out into equal-sized cards. Laminate for extra durability, if you like.
Tuck a few cards inside a pencil pouch to create a “Busy Bag” for on-the-go learning.
Create learning binders or “Busy Binders” by printing on plain copy paper and slipping the pages into sheet protectors.
There are infinite ways to use these resources with children to develop critical thinking, early math and writing skills, all the while sharing delightful conversations! XOXO
